UniTeam’s Medication Calculation training addresses the risk of medication errors, which are unintended mistakes in the prescribing, dispensing and administration of a medicine that could cause harm to a patient.  Medication calculation errors are the most common preventable cause of undesired adverse events in medication practice, and it is for this reason that UniTeam offer this as part of our CME course menu.

This competency-based course is intended for nurses from all disciplines, practical nurses, midwives, practical midwives and other healthcare providers who are interested in refreshing their knowledge on accurate medication calculation for the safe accurate administration of medications.  Topics include:

  • The definition of medication calculation;
  • Basic mathematic review;
  • Identification of each value in a formula and calculations of mass to mass;
  • Mass to liquid;
  • IV fluids;
  • Volume/time to IV ml rate;
  • Volume/time to IV drop factor; and
  • Dosage by weight.

Medication Calculations is accredited for 2.5 Category 1 Continuing Medical Education hours by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi.
